All Part of the Service: Manufacturer’s Rep
As those of you who regularly work with us will know, 3LR Lighting is a multi-faceted business. Our expert staff, years of experience and access to the latest technology means we are able to offer a range of services to a variety of clients; all with the aim of using lighting to transform venues and create an emotional response for anyone visiting. That said, for those who may not be entirely aware of the work we offer, we’ve decided to write a series of blogs which focus on each of the specific services we provide. Today, we’re looking at our role as a Manufacturer Representative, what this entails, and how you can benefit from it.
Manufacturer Representatives are quite common in America but less so in the UK; hence we’re proud to be pioneering this model. Essentially, as a Representative, we represent leading manufacturers of lighting technology and control. These manufacturers are ones which have been carefully vetted and whose products we believe are both cutting-edge and industry leading.
Given we are a representative as opposed to say a sales and distribution operation, this puts us in the unique position of being as fully independent as possible. Our priority is solely to advise and specify our clients with state-of-the-art, aesthetically-pleasing and sustainable lighting schemes; hence our product recommendations are always reflective of what we consider will work best in a given environment or application and always have our customer’s specific requirements as a priority.
As a Manufacturer Representative, we work largely in the architectural market, helping to bring spaces to life and for visitors to truly engage with them (hence our mantra of ‘lighting by emotion’). For example, if you are a theatre and want a brand-new architectural system, then you would approach us to put together a list of equipment to help you achieve this. Similarly, if you had an existing tungsten system that you wish to convert to LED, we can help visualise how this would be made possible via a basic Dialux design which will show a like-for-like replacement (generated by our in-house Architectural Lighting Designer Karoliina Helin). Equally, if you have a control system that you’ve designed yourself then we can also work together to decide which equipment best facilitates this.
Essentially, as a representative, it’s our role to ensure clients can use and incorporate specific brands within their venues. For instance, in the UK and Ireland, we are the exclusive ETC Architectural Rep and are proud of how we’ve introduced this innovative technology to venues of all sizes; both in our exclusive territory and on other projects internationally, working with teams based in the UK to offer the same high level of service.
We also don’t buy or sell any equipment (this is done directly between the client and manufacturer) and our service as a Representative is completely free and won’t come at any cost to the end user. Ultimately, we see our role as one which goes on a journey with our customers, guides them to the point of purchase and ensures they are fully confident when they finally make that investment.
